Terms and Conditions Fees and Cost

What is Apostille and/or Authentication of documents? It is the process uses to attest to the legality and authenticity of documents to be accepted in countries outside of South Africa and is commonly known as the Legalisation process.


In South Africa the Department of International Relations and Co-Operations are the administrators of this process. DIRCO has a Data base of all the authorised signatories of official documents in South Africa. The Type of document and the target country dictates the legalisation process.


Apostille is used for countries whom are signatories to the La Hague convention while the Authentication process is used for Non signatories to the La Hague Convention.

Depending of the type of document this authentication must be done either by DIRCO or the High Court.

 1. Documents that must be presented to DIRCO for Apostille      and/or Authentication.

Apostille of documents by DIRCO can only be done at DIRCO  Head Office in Pretoria where the originals must be presented.

 1.1. Original Documents:

     • Unabridged certificates from Department of home Affairs.

       • Police Clearance certificates.

       • Medical Reports authenticated by HPCSA.

 1.2. Copies authenticated by the relevant Government Departments

     • Educational certificates authenticated by the Department of Education.

       • Medical certificates and reports authenticated by the Health Professionals         Counsel.

 1.3. Documents intended for counties whom are not signatories to the La         Hague convention and has to be presented to the specific country        Embassy must also be Authenticated by DIRCO.


2. Documents that must be presented to the High Court for     Apostille and /or Authentication.

The documents must be presented to the High Court in the area where the documents originated.

      • Notarised Copies of documents.

      • If a Apostille is needed it will be done at the High Court.

      • If the document has to legalised by a embassy the document  has also          have to be presented to DIRCO.

      • Translations


3. Documents that have to be Legalised at Embassy's.When countries are not party to the La Hague convention a further step must be followed:

 • Authentication at the High Court if necessary

 • Authentication at the Department of international Relations and Co-    operation (DIRCO)

 • Finally presentation to the relevant Embassy.


  4. Cost and Fees:

 • First document in bundle R 495 per department it has to be presented    to.

 • Every document there after R 95 per department it has to be presented    to.

 •  Courier fees of R 150 in South Africa and R 625 International.

 • Forex Fees of R 285 per payment.

  On receipt of the applications we will email u a invoice with payment options and details.

 • Lead time commences on receipt of Deposit.

Important Notes

• Only documents that originated in South Africa, with other   words, South African documents can be legalised by Apostille   and/or Authentication in South Africa.

• Original document always forms the base .

• Documents must not be laminated.

   •• Write lightly in pencil at the back of each document your Initials, Surname and the the target country.

 • On Receipt of the documents we will;

   •• We will confirm receipt.

   •• We will email you a invoice with banking details.

   •• Process the Legalisation

   •• On receipt of payment we will courier the certificates to u.

 • Lead Time (Lead Times are indications and will be confirmed with each order)

   •• Apostille /Authentication at DIRCO: 3 to 4 working days.

   •• Certification at Department Education etc. 3 to 5 working days.

   •• Authentication School Qualifications at Umalisi : 3 to 10 working days:

   •• Certification at embassy: 5  to 10 working days
